Toys of the 50's might have seemed a bit violent
for today's PC world. The difference between then and now was, we could
play out our aggression. Cowboys and Indians, Space men or whatever. A
couple of hours of killing, shooting and vapourizing, then home for tea
ready to start again.

Boys always knew if they felt hungry they could find a fluff covered
fruit gum in one of their pockets.

Making Airfix kits was a great hobby, I would always get a great feeling when I had finished a model and hung it on the ceiling. It was only last year that I realised it was the glue that gave me that feeling!!
Space, the final frontier.
Space was the final frontier. Comics, toys, sweets and
even clothes, were all geared toward space. I even hung up my faithful snake
belt for the Dan Dare space belt.
Collecting Matchbox toys.
Collecting Matchbox toys was a must for all boys. For
these we would get up early every morning, in all weather to deliver news
papers.
'Bayko' for the budding house builder.
There was everything for the boy to build or make. Meccano
for the budding engineer or Bayko for the house builder. You only have to
see some of the houses that are built today to know where the inspiration
came from.
