The papers were full of the Coronation and the weather. There
were bad floods in some parts of the country. Three cricketers were
killed by lightening as they sheltered under a tree. The papers
were advising people who were going to London to watch, 'Not to
take an umbrella with them', for fear of taking out someone's eye.
These were the days before 'Black Plastic Bags' so it was out with
the 'Plastic Mac'.

Four new stamps were issued for the Coronation. 2½d.
4d. 1s 3d. and 1s 6d. (Today it would be approx. 1p. 2p. 6p. 7p.).
The 1/3d stamp is the first stamp issued with the Queen full faced.

Funny old world!! Today a story about a pile of 'Coke' would
mean something else. (For the younger visitor, Coke was a type of
fuel, not some thing that rots the teeth or destroys your nose).
